In November of 2018 Sol and I went to the Berkshires for a romantic weekend. There, I tried convincing her to take up knitting after seeing how enamored she was all the handmade garments we were coming across in the area’s many little shops. She agreed, but only under the condition that I learn with her.

Fast forward to the holidays of 2018. Sol has knit a scarf and what seems like infinite cowls. I have a small square of fabric, I should have two, but I got frustrated with the first and end up undoing all my work.

all my progress in 2018

We are in Arizona and while there my dad asks me to make a hat for him for his birthday (4/4). I start the hat but don’t get very far. Not long after the new year, I stop knitting entirely until this last holiday season when Sol convinced me to pick it up again with some gentle persistence.

looks pretty good, right?

The small yarn made this take a while, but it felt great to complete and I feel it turned out well for a first project. I got comfortable with knitting and found it therapeutic, even meditative. I’ll be starting on another, more difficult hat very soon.
